Old ways of thinking are like quicksand

The more you fight to defend them the faster you will sink.

Book_Cant Ignore You_SM3I just finished a great book called “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” by Cal Newport. His ideas about work success went against everything I’ve ever heard. Mind Blown!

Cal’s book debunks the notion of “follow your passion.” He talks about focusing on building “career capital.” He says “the better you become at a job, the more it becomes your passion.”

How true is that? Remember when you were in school and certain subjects were easier than others? You loved the subjects that were easier. We love what comes easy.
Cal’s “career capital” is essentially the skills you develop overtime.

A new way of thinking about weight loss is the idea of skill building. In today’s world we want what we want when we want it. Which is right now! We want to be “successful” right now. Without skill building we will surely sink.

Take a step back, rethink your approach. Rather than focusing on being successful, focus on skill building. Remember skills aren’t built overnight they are built over time and with practice.

The skill we are talking about is staying in your food lane. When you were learning to drive you had to practice staying in your lane. Sometimes you went out of your lane and swerved back. Over time you learned the skill of keeping your car in your lane.

Today, change the way you think about your weight success. Practice the skill of choosing the foods and activities that will be help you on your journey. The more you practice the better you become, the better you become the easier it is.

Stop What you are doing, take a breath
Ask questions: What skill am I practicing to day? How can I execute this practice?
Take action: Practice that skill today. It can be taking 10 min and walking at lunch or ordering food that aligns with your goals.

Let me know how it goes!
